James' eyes flickered around the courtyard icily, as they roamed over the fae that were grouped up there. Their eyes glanced over the boy, amusement showing through like the light of day. He sighed heavily and continued on his routes, working for one of the Argentum Knights at the moment. He was practically considered a slave, though he hadn't been TECHNICALLY claimed. Many fae had attempted, but being here for so many years and the false loyalty he'd shown, he'd been granted a special set of clothing or two. Mainly one set to sleep in and one set to do the every day tasks and such. Growing up in the court, the clothes he wore really didn't feel odd to him. James hadn't seen the outside years, the human world where he'd been born since he'd been taken into the court. They'd had to supply him with clothing, because growing up... well, he wouldn't fit into the clothing since when he'd first arrived. Fitting in wasn't neccessarily what the fae wanted, but more...the servants looking professional. The slaves, no, no one tended to care about. They were claimed and killed as the courts saw fit, property of those who'd taken them. James glanced down at his set, and sighed slightly. They needed to be washed, which was something he was going to have to do tonight. The dark pair of breeches had small speckles of spills on it, and the white tunic was just the same. Though his boots were in good condition, they'd also been newly replaced.

As he heard a sharp yell from one of the fae, James hurried up and scurried into the kitchen. The fae that had demanded him wanted a plate of the most fruits he could gather. James had put the order in and asked the cooks to start making them fifteen minutes ago. As promised, there was a large plate of fruits and vegetables sitting there, and the servant snatched it up before another could. His feet carried him quickly up to the room of the fae, and delivered it quickly. Even so, the knight screamed at him, and even sent a blow his way that made James stagger and hit the floor, smashing into a glass table. With the quick reflexes he'd gained, it was first nature to switch to he landed on is hands and didn't tear his clothing. There were already patches and stitches all over from fixing in, and he didn't want to make any more. His face contorted up in pain, as he stood up, light headed from all the blood loss and pain coming from his hands. There were even some cuts on his face from the glass hitting it, and he noticed with a sigh that there were small tears in his clothing from the landing. Blood dripped down his body and through his clothes, seeping through and staining them. An inward groan left his lips as he staggered, and hit one of the walls, trying to make it down. The servant could barely walk down the stairs, eyes blurred. The edges of his vision was tinted red, and his black hair was matted to his forehead with knots of blood. His breathing ragged, the boy couldn't even make it down to his own room.

As soon as he hit the courtyard and grass, his legs locked and the boy fell to a crumpled pile. Chest heaving, he coughed up a nice mouthful of blood. The glass table had been fairly large, stretching a good five feet both ways. He'd landed in the middle, too; which made it even worse. As James glanced up to see all the fae and slaves looking at him curiously, he gasped inaudiably. He'd die here on this spot unless someone helped him, and he needed help fast. Wheezing slightly, he picked the large shard of glass from the palm of his hand, which caused even more blood to spurt forwards. His vision swam, and he coughed again, chest barely moving. " P-p-please..." James whispered, the words only loud enough to be heard against the deadest of silence. " H-He-Help... M-me.."

[RONJA IRIS AMALIA]

Ronja stayed in the castle most days since she returned from her battle with the little bitch of an Atra. But today, she had tried to wander outside, since it normally calmed her nerves, but she wasn't so sure, every snap made her turn, every bird call made her jump. Even though she had warned people about Rad and she doubted the Atra was really going to come after all. She dressed in pants of course, but they were so wide and loose they looked like a skirt. Her wounds were too sensitive for the clinging fabric she always wore. Her shirt was flowing as well, with a much higher neckline than she liked. She hardly felt comfortable. But she was too proud to show her scars, not just yet. Even though everyone had heard the rumors.

She was on her way back inside when she saw a group of people staring at something. Her eyes trailed over to the spot which had them so fixated... was that a person? Ronja hurried over and dropped to her knees, instantly regretting it because pain shot through her body. "Are you all stupid?" She asked the little group. This mortal was bleeding, this could kill him. Ronja knew she wasn't really a high enough rank to order people around, but she'd been well respected for years. Sometimes more so now that she'd been defeated. Since she didn't fall to pieces about it in front of anyone but Nicholas.

She stood up and called over a guard. "Carry him up to my room, I'll tend him until you can get a doctor." Ronja said to the guard who showed up to help. They went up the stairs quickly, snaking through the halls of the Argentum court until they reach the rooms of Lady Ronja. She had them lay him on a couch (which was already covered with a sheet, considering Ronja herself was recovering and did not wish to get blood anywhere.)

With that, she got to work as fast as her sore body would let her. Cleaning his wounds and removing as much glass as she could find from his hands, arms and face. Thus far, she had said nothing to him. Not sure what to say anyway. Besides, her body was throbbing with the sudden work. Ronja wrapped a bandage around his palm where a large shard had been, trying to asses what was the most important injury to take care of first.

A tiny groan left his lips as he felt himself being picked up and moved, though his eyes were closed shut. It had been years since he'd been injured this badly, especially in the court, but being mortal... there really wasn't anything he could do. Mortals were expendable out here, and it kind've shocked him that he wasn't going to die there. His mind was fuzzy, so he was completely unaware of if he really was dead or that he was being moved somewhere where he could die without the fae having to watch him. He'd seen it happen before too, and well.. There was no possible way of telling without opening his eyes, which because of all the blood, wasn't truly possible. James wasn't even sure if he was alive anymore; he'd seen countless dead mortals in the court, even those older and more trusted than him, which just made him think that maybe he wouldn't live through this. I probably am dead, but just can still feel the pain. He thought grimly, his life flashing before his eyes.

When he felt the weight being lifted slightly, James knew that he was being placed down somewhere, though he was still unsure where. It seemed... fairly comfortable, from what the pain-hazy boy could tell, though his opinion wasn't really valid. He felt like a giant shard of glass had been driven through his lungs, becauase breathing had become a struggle for servant. Coughing up, he thrashed around on the cough for a couple of minutes, without meaning to. He could hear voices, but the words that they spoke floated right on through without any understanding. He could hear them, and was guessing that they were talking about him, but he there was no understanding. James felt hands all around, and tried not to scream as he felt the glass being taken out, which provoked even more blood loss towards his already severely lacking body. There was nothing he could do, though, as he just waited.

After awhile, his head floating lightly as if it was in the clouds, he finally coughed one last time and stopped moving on the couch, very close to passing out. He rested on the couch, and to the untrained eye, most would of considered the boy dead. Through the pain, James cracked an eye open just a tiny bit to be able to see that who was helped him, and had he had the energy, he would've gasped in shock. He'd only been able to open it a tiny but, but he knew that face. It was one of the Queen's ladies, and he'd served her a many times before. He'd served practically all the knights and ladies, so he knew most of them, though not necessarily all of their names.

"La..lady Ronja...?" He asked, his voice sounding pitifully weak. That took up the last of his energy, and his eye closed once again and he rested his head back calmly, trying not to pass out, trying to keep consciousness. He still felt hhe after effects of the loss, but he could tell that his wounds were being addressed and the blood was starting to course through his body properly.

Ronja moved as quickly as should could manage. She knew if he lost too much blood he would die, but how much was too much blood for a human? She'd only tended fae before, and usually herself since she was the one who often got into scrapes. Because I'm a fool, and a dare devil, she thought bitterly. But there would be time for self pity later.

She eased the glass out of his chest, trying to be very careful of his veins and such, she was no doctor but she knew the glass would be more helpful our than in. And she knew her way around a bandage, she could do an adequate job until someone more qualified showed up in any case. It seemed she must have done something right because he had just spoken her name. Thank god he wasn't already dead! "Yes." She answered simply. "Keep talking, it'll keep you consious." She said, it almost sounded like and order. She didn't mean it to sound that way, but it would help him, and she was in pain of her own.

Ronja felt bad that she had no idea who he was, since he knew who she was. But she realized, she was rather well known, especially since Nicholas and Apollo and Rad....

"Tell me about yourself," Ronja prompted, trying to keep him awake. She worked dutifully until she figured there was nothing else she could do, and she wiped a cool cloth across his face, and chest and arms, cleaning the more minor cuts and removing the blood.

Though his head was still swimming, because he was lasying down comfortably, the boy was able to hear and understand Lady Ronja finally. It took some effort, and re thinking, but he finally got her words through his head, and he cracked a tiny smile to show that he was still alive... even though not so well. He could feel the glass leaving his body, which kind've disturbed him, though he tried not letting it get to him and he just listened to her for a couple of moments before realizing she'd stopped. It took another moment for him to register everything she said and process it through his head.

"I'm.. James, my lady.. I've been serving.. here since a young child.. grown up in the Argentum court.. claimed as a servant before.. but now open and free.." His voice faltered as another coughing fit started up and his face paled as the pain re-exploded from moving too much. Even if he came out of this injured and unable to server, he'd still be thankful to Ronja like no other. He already knew that he owed her his life, and without her that he'd be dead.

His eyes remained closed and his chest faltered to move for a moment as he held his breath, trying to restrain and stop the pain that was coursing so forcefully through his body. It was building up and building up to the point that he was becoming numb to it, in a sense that he didn't know what to do anymore. He gasped slightly as her hands touched a sensitive piece, where a fairly painful and large piece of glass had been.

"My stomach," He gasped in pain, his voice quiet with even more pain. Accidentally, he must've shifted so that a shard in his back had pushed in even more. He'd already lost so much blood that even though he couldn't feel the blood, he knew it was from the pain that was exploding from his lower back. It was a burning feeling, basically feeling worse than he could describe. It felt exactly how he looked; like he'd been shoved through a glass table.

Ronja listened to him carefully, but not really taking in his words to think about them, just to make sure he made sense and wasn't just garbling words. James. She could remember that. Obviously, she hadn't done a perfect job, judging by the fact that he said spoke and his back started bleeding even more. She shifted him carefully so she could see his back, there was a rather large shard. It would have to be removed, but could she do so without killing him? Ronja bit her lip and with a steady hand, she carefully removed the shard, placing a disinfected bandage over the spot as blood started to gush out. She really hoped his blood started clotting properly, she'd covered the most intense wounds she could find, so really he should be recovering. Ronja would be so frustrated if she managed to destroy this man. It wasn't fair.

"Who did this to you James?" She said, obviously angry. Her hatred of whoever could do this to a poor mortal out weighing her concern for him in her voice. Ronja, after having taking beating from Rad was really not for violence that wasn't directed at an Atra, at least, she wasn't as ready to cat fight with anyone she could. Probably because her body couldn't handle it. But all in all, she hated that mortals were treated like this. her best friend was a mortal after all.

Ronja checked his body again, but it seemed she'd gotten it all. Some of these would probably leave rather nasty scars. "No one will do this to you again." she announced. Ronja had decided on a whim that she should claim this man before any more harm could come to him, she, while feisty, was a very easy person to tend to. She liked to do most things herself.

James didn't have the energy to talk, as the pain emanating from the shark dug deep into his back was blinding his mind, setting him off so badly he didn't know which way was up and which was down. Another groan left his lips without realizing it, and he could feel the consciousness draining out from him. Even though the pain was still pretty bad, the servant now knew that he was going to survive eventually. The scars would be left there for the rest of his life, but the wounds would heal up, hopefully perfectly, so that he wasn't disabled in any way and so that he could continue his job serving everyone. As much as the fear that protruding from his mind, he knew that there really wasn't much of a choice and that he'd have to continue being a servant no matter how much he wanted a break.

As soon as the pain in his back lessened, he was automatically aware that the shard had been removed. The disinfectant on his entire body was stinging a little bit, but compared to the pain of being thrown through a glass table, it was nothing. James let out a tiny sigh of relief, before realizing that she'd spoken before. The pain had been too much for him to notice, but now that he thought about it, James tried to isolate who the fae was. It was a relatively young one, so he was unaware of the lord's name. He was in the age where he thought he was all that, and that abusing a mortal was nothing much. To be quite honest, the elder fae were generally the ones more respectful towards the servants, having gone through much more in their lives.

"I.. I'm sorry, my lady, but I'm unsure. One of the younger fae, of that I'm certain." He spoke, his voice more stable than before. James wanted to hang his head in shame, knowing that he'd been no help towards her. He was a servant, and that was his job; to help the fae in any way they saw fit, no matter what is was. Even if it was well.. getting thrown through a glass table. Cracking his eyes open once again, it was a miracle that he was okay to this extent. Any other humans probably would've died, as he'd been so close to doing. As she spoke a second time, his eyes nearly widened in thanks.

I shall remain in your debt, my lady. Without your aide I would not of survived this ordeal." Though it wasn't perfect, it was clear to tell that he was already starting to feel better, as for his voice had finally stopped shaking, and practically sounded normal.

[RONJA IRIS AMALIA]

Ronja smiled a little and wiped his brow again. Poor man. She knew the feeling, close to death, afraid and small. She had always been known as bold and proud, sensual and risky. But she had a soft side, which she showed more often since her attack, but only when alone. And only with Nicholas or Keiji, and now sort of with James, since she felt sorry for him.

Younger fae, of course, they were so foolhardy really. Not that all the elder fae were any better than them sometimes. But Ronja refused to see him abused this way, and she intended to keep her promise that he would not be hurt like such again. "James, you will be my servant from now on." She announced. "I would give you a choice, but I don't want to see you hurt again. I never ask for much, you're job will be easy. And for now, I want you to rest." She told him with a little smile, and with that, she stood up and went to the door, asking that fresh clothes be brought for him. Ronja figured he might as well get a better outfit, she wouldn't have him looking like that.

Ronaj returned to his side. "Hungry? Shall I send for something?" She asked him, there was already a soft spot in her heart for him, considering his injuries. Ronja felt like she could identify with him and she'd had Nicholas to save her, and she would save James.

It was a miracle really to him that he wasn't dying, being that he'd already accepted it. Finding one of the nicer fae put him in high spirits, knowing that even in a world of darkness and violence there could still be a light that shone through to save them. James had heard about Lady Ronja's injuries.. How could he not of? All of the fae had been gossiping about it, and even though he was a servant, he still heard things. Most of the fae, without realizing it, would talk so loud that half the courtyard could hear them. It just put the servants at advantage, really, because the slaves were normally kept elsewhere.

When she announced at he was to be her servant, James sort of smiled in relief. He never minded being a personal servant, well.. to the right fae of course. All those who he'd been to in the past had found him incompetent. Not so much for his skills, or lack of. But for the fact he couldn't continue with his duties after being battered so badly, like what had happened with the table. He'd only been a personal servant to three or four fae, and they were all rowdy and didn't care about the health of their servants. The only reason James had been placed to serve them was because he'd been there since childhood, and he knew the Argentum court like the back of his hand, if not better. The mortal world was an unfamiliar buzz in the back of his head, and something that he care not about anymore.


"Think nothing of it, had I the choice I'd prefer to be in your service. You saved my life and for that, I'm in your debt. My graditute is something I can only show by doing the most I can for you, in any way you'll need me. I will do my best." It was almost like a tiny speech, though not. James was speaking from the depths of his heart, eternally thankful to Ronja for saving him. Practically all the fae in either court would have just stand there and gawked at him till he could feel the life draining away from his body. He was going to do his best, in every way that she saw fight, even if he was worked to the core.

James would of bowed to her, though his injuries didn't prove him able. As soon as he was well enough, he was going to aid her and do everything in his power to make it up to her.

"Water, please." He croaked, realizing how parched he really was. His throat was absolutely horrendous, from all the coughing he'd done earlier. "Lots and lots of water.."

Ronja smiled at him as he spoke. It felt good to do good, and she felt sorry for him. Is this how she had looked? Sad, broken, bloody, weak.... It broke her heart for some reason, she had never been so tender before. But now that it had happened to her and now that she had a mortal as her best friend... it made sense. "Shhh," She said with a little smile, flattered by his speech but she didn't want him to hurt himself more.

Ronja went to the door again and asked that water and some sort of pastry was brought up for him. Food would do him good, a little, blood sugar. And of course water, which he requested. Someone else would bring it up for her, since obviously she couldn't send James to do it.

The servant was quick and Ronja thanked them and sent them on their way, bringing a tray over and setting it on the table in front of the couch. There was a large jug of water and a plate of cakes, she realized, fae food would only make him bound to them, but she assumed he was anyway, but no way to know.... He looked like he was used to this life style though.
